Former Miss USA passes away after jumping from high-rise

Cheslie Kryst, Miss USA 2019, has passed away at age 30 after reportedly jumping from the 29th floor of a New York high-rise on Sunday morning.

The NYPD responded to a report at 7:05 a.m. that a woman had jumped from the terrace of the 60-story Orion condominium building in the theater district of Manhattan. Kryst was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police suspect it was a suicide, but the cause of death is yet to be ruled by the medical examiner after an autopsy.

Kryst’s family confirmed the news of her passing, stating, “In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie. Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined.” 

The Miss Universe and Miss USA Organizations released a joint statement to offer their condolences.

They described her as “one of the brightest, warmest, and most kind people” who “lit up every room she entered.”

Kryst’s family added that she “embodied love and served others.” 

Kryst won the Miss USA pageant in 2019. She obtained her MBA and law degree from Wake Forest University and was a former civil litigation attorney.

She then worked for Extra TV as an entertainment news correspondent and received an Emmy nomination.

Extra TV said in their statement, “Our hearts are broken. Cheslie was not just a vital part of our show, she was a beloved part of our Extra family and touched the entire staff.  Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends.” 

Kryst shared a picture on Instagram mere hours before her passing. The caption read, “May this day bring you rest and peace.”

    Commentator said “her impact will live on”? I think her impact is what killed her.
