Michael Ryan Burke, a respected Marine veteran, died after a violent incident at his Columbia, Missouri home during a Facebook Marketplace transaction.
He was able to call 911 and share crucial details about the suspects before texting a goodbye to his mother and sister.
“Hey, I’m dying and I love you,” he wrote to his loved ones.
His friend Jerry Reifeiss stated,
“He always put people in front of him and wanted to make sure people knew how he felt. He didn’t want to go on to the next life and pass away without providing some information to us here that would bring justice to these people and let people know he always loves them.”
Authorities charged three eighteen-year-olds and one juvenile with multiple felonies, including second-degree murder and first-degree robbery.
Burke served as a Marine and helped others around the world, including humanitarian projects in Uganda, Haiti, and Iraq.
He later worked as a firefighter in Missouri, continuing his service to the country.
Father Salar Kajo, a priest from Iraq, spoke about Burke’s generosity to Iraqi Christians.
“He helped a lot to rebuild and remodel the kindergarten of Teleskof,” said Fr. Kajo.
Fr. Kajo added, “He dedicated his heart to family, to God, and also to help the people, especially he loved the people of Iraq.”
According to Fr. Kajo, “He especially was taking care of children. Always the money he sent was for schools and children that were sick.”
