This move is part of a broader Republican-led effort to scrutinize federal immigration enforcement under the Biden-Harris administration.

Jordan plans to address his concerns in letters to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. These letters will highlight the perceived failures in visa vetting processes, using Soliman’s case as a prime example.

Soliman, who entered the United States during the Biden administration, overstayed his visa and now faces charges for allegedly attacking individuals at a demonstration with a makeshift flamethrower and Molotov cocktails. The attack, which targeted a gathering supporting hostages of Hamas, resulted in injuries to eight people, including a Holocaust survivor.

“The issuance of Soliman’s visa and his admission into the United States raise serious questions about the Biden-Harris Administration’s application of federal immigration law and the adequacy of visa vetting procedures more generally,” Jordan stated in the letter. He contrasted this with the previous administration’s approach, which he claims applied “increased scrutiny to aliens seeking to obtain a visa or other immigration benefit.”

Jordan emphasized the importance of his committee’s oversight role, stating, “Pursuant to the Rules of the House of Representatives, the Committee on the Judiciary is authorized to conduct oversight of federal immigration policy and procedures.”

In his request for information, Jordan seeks comprehensive details about Soliman’s immigration history, including any applications for immigration benefits and his detention status. He also requested similar information for Soliman’s wife and five children.

According to a DHS spokesperson, Soliman entered the U.S. on a B2 visa in August 2022, which expired in February 2023. He subsequently filed for asylum in September 2022. Despite the charges against him, a federal judge in Colorado, appointed by Biden, has blocked the deportation of Soliman’s family, pausing removal proceedings for his wife and children.
