Clear Facts

  • Eva Mendes has not appeared in a movie for ten years, prioritizing motherhood over her acting career.
  • Mendes has explored other creative endeavors, including fashion, makeup, and writing a children’s book.
  • She has expressed uncertainty about returning to acting, citing her changed priorities since becoming a mother.

Eva Mendes, once a staple on the big screen, has been noticeably absent from Hollywood for the past decade. Her decision to step away from acting was a conscious one, driven by her desire to focus on raising her two daughters, Esmerelda and Amada, with her partner, Ryan Gosling.

While Gosling continues to star in major films like “The Big Short,” “La La Land,” and “Barbie,” Mendes has redirected her creative energies elsewhere. She has ventured into fashion, makeup, and most recently, authored a children’s book titled “Desi, Mami, and The Never-Ending Worries.”

During an appearance on Good Morning America, Mendes discussed her new book and addressed the lingering question of whether she would ever return to acting.

“I don’t know. If there’s interesting roles…I kind of felt like I did it, you know? I was like, ‘I just worked with Ryan Gosling. He’s like, the best,'” she said, referring to their collaboration in the 2012 film “The Place Beyond the Pines.”

“It was such a high [in] my career to work with him and what we created together, that I was like, ‘This is a good time to like ’Seinfeld’ it, and just walk out.’ So, who knows?”

Mendes has previously shared how her perspective on acting has shifted since becoming a mother.

“Acting is something that I will always love. It’s just like now that I have children, I’m kind of extreme,” she said in 2020. “There’s just so many things I won’t do. Like, I won’t do most of the movies I’ve done in the past. A lot of things are off that list. I don’t want to do anything too violent. Of course, I don’t want to do anything too sexual or sexual at all.”

In 2021, Mendes made a brief appearance in the children’s show “Bluey,” which was a hit with her family.

When discussing her book on Good Morning America, Mendes noted that writing it had a positive impact on her parenting.

“Desi has these never-ending worries — I have them as well,” she admitted. “And she tries to work with her brain to…make sure it’s not being a bully to her, by sending all these negative thoughts her way, and that it’s being like a BFF to her.”

The “Hitch” actress explained how the concept of the brain as a bully helped her daughters manage their anxiety.

“Once I named it a bully, that your brain could be a bully to you, sending you all these crazy thoughts and down a spiral, it helped me…help them deal with their anxiety,” she said. “And by naming it and going like, ‘Hey, that’s not you. Don’t believe everything you think. That’s not you, that’s just your brain on overdrive.'”

Mendes revealed that her children enjoyed her book.

“They love it. I think they love it. They’re very harsh critics though,” she shared, recounting a touching moment with her daughter.

“My little girl, who just turned 10, was having a hard time, and I swear to you, I walk into her room, she’s reading the book…That really got to me,” she said.

Eva Mendes’ future in acting remains uncertain, but her dedication to her family and new creative pursuits clearly brings her fulfillment.

I am quite impressed in her dedication to her family over the pull of stardom. FAMILY SHOULD ALWAYS COME FIRST.
