  • William “Roddie” Bryan, the man who filmed the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, has been receiving threats, said his lawyer.
  • His lawyer emphasized that Bryan had no connection to the suspects arrested in Arbery’s death other than being their neighbor.
  • He added that his client has shared the video with authorities immediately after the shooting and cooperated in their investigation.

William “Roddie” Bryan, the man who recorded footage of the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, has been receiving threats, his attorney said on Saturday.

Kevin Gough emphasized that his client did not have any connection with the suspects outside of being neighbors and was not coordinating with them on the day of the shooting.

The lawyer added that Bryan had shared the video with authorities immediately after the shooting and cooperated in their investigation.

The footage, which was publicly released last week, led to the arrests of Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son Travis McMichael, 34. They were charged with murder and aggravated assault.

On Friday, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vic Reynolds said that the video was a “very important piece of evidence” in the ongoing investigation. He added that everyone involved in the case would be investigated, including the “individual who shot the video.”

Gough informed CNN that the comments from the authorities have put the lives of Bryan, his family, and his connections in danger.

He said that Bryan was simply doing yardwork when he spotted a car he recognized following a man, and started filming. He then shared the video with the police officers who arrived on the scene.

Gough stressed the importance of the video in developing a lead in the case.

He declared, “Mr. Bryan videotaped what was going on and because he did that, there is a prosecution. If he had not videotaped that incident, the only person who really could speak to what happened is dead and we’ll never have that opportunity. That video is the prosecution.”

Gough called for investigators to review the video evidence and quickly clear his client’s name, NBC News reported.

The investigation was launched on May 5 and is still ongoing in partnership with District Attorney Tom Durden of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation declared on Saturday that it was still reviewing additional video footage and photographs of the incident.

The recorded footage showed Arbery running in a neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia on February 23. A white pickup truck can then be seen stopping in front of Arbery, causing him to run around the vehicle.

A struggle soon erupted between Arbery and another man, followed by multiple gunshots. Arbery then collapsed on the pavement.

The Glynn County Police Department reported that the McMichaels said they armed themselves and chased Arbery thinking he was a burglary suspect.

The video has sparked public outrage and prompted calls from lawmakers for a more thorough investigation.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden called the killing a part of a “pandemic of hate,” while President Trump found the footage “very disturbing.”
