Former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Admiral Mike Mullen described former President Donald Trump’s final months in the White House as an “incredibly disturbing” and “chaotic environment.”

Mullen was citing some events from new books about Trump, who reportedly tried to initiate efforts to remain in power despite losing the elections.

Based on the stories in the recent books and a New Yorker article, incumbent chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and General Mark Milley was worried that the ex-leader would stage a military coup or launch a strike on Iran to sustain his position.

During his interview with ‘Face the Nation,’ Mullen revealed that the reports regarding the final weeks of Trump’s administration were “pretty accurate.”

“The two threats that you talked about… I think that’s all very accurate and obviously incredibly disturbing,” Mullen told the show.

In one instance, Milley likened Trump’s rhetoric to Adolf Hitler and experienced a “stomach-churning” feeling after listening to his false claims of election fraud, as mentioned in the book ‘I Alone Can Fix It: Donald Trump’s Catastrophic Final Year.’

At the time, Mullen said that top military officials like Milley and himself would usually engage in “very tough, heated debates” with the president. He said that Milley acted rightfully as he rebuked Trump in some of his suggestions.

“I think General Milley and others who’ve served over the last four years would tell you it’s been a very chaotic environment, very difficult to predict what was going to happen from day to day, and great concern with respect to the possibility of some of the orders that might come the military’s way,” he said.

Mullen praised Milley for taking a stand.

“General Milley, I thought, really did the right thing on both fronts… I don’t think he was alone with respect to Iran. But I think on the internal potential for a coup, really, really stood up, did the right thing, and I think made the case that he was the right officer to have in the right job at the right time in a very, very difficult, stunning and unprecedented situation,” he said.

Mullen ultimately said that if Trump did use military power to stay in office, Milley and other high military officials would quit their posts.
