WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Republicans blasted President Joe Biden after the discovery of classified documents from his time as vice president were found at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington.
  • Former Vice President Mike Pence said that the discovery of the documents from Biden’s center compared to the FBI’s raid at former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence proved a “double standard.”
  • Attorney General Merrick Garland has handed the case over to a U.S. attorney in Chicago to start the investigation.

Former Vice President Mike Pence made his opinion known on Tuesday about the discovery of classified documents from President Joe Biden’s center in Washington. Pence said that the discovery of the documents during Biden’s time as vice president compared to the FBI’s unprecedented raid of former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence proved a “double standard.”

“It’s just incredibly frustrating to me,” Pence said on the “Hugh Hewitt Show.” “But the original sin here was the massive overreach.”

The FBI found more than 100 classified documents from the former president’s Florida estate during their search in August, which Pence said was a “massive overreach” by the bureau. Trump is under criminal investigation by the Department of Justice for his removal of government records from the White House when he left office in January 2021.

Pence said the Mar-a-Lago search created a standard that the FBI could execute a search warrant at a former president’s personal home. He added that the Biden administration should appoint the same special counsel for investigation in Biden’s papers, instead of a U.S. attorney, as they did for Trump.

“But having now created that standard and now abandoned that standard when the current president of the United States is found to have had classified documents in his possession after leaving office, I have no words right now,” Pence said.

“But the willingness of the national media to just turn away and turn a deaf ear to the Biden, to the disclosures that when Vice President Biden left office, he left with classified documents as well, it just shows you, it’s like I said before,” Pence added. “If they didn’t have double standards, they’d have no standards at all.”

The classified documents were found by Biden’s attorney in a private office in November. The lawyer reportedly notified the National Archives, which recovered the documents the next morning. The case was passed on to the Justice Department for further investigation, according to Richard Sauber, special counsel to Biden.

“What they have unleashed now has the threat of coming back on them,” Pence added.

The documents found from former Vice President Biden, when discovered were immediately turned over to the National Archives when found. Biden, unlike Trump, when notified, immediately worked the National Archives, the DOJ, etc. Trump did not. He also moved documents, refuses to work with the National Archives, the DOJ, the FBI, etc.

Pence did you not forget. Trump nearly had you and your family killed during the January 6th insurrection because you did not agree with him. And did nothing to stop it. Think about that.
