  • Lee Zeldin, EPA Administrator, referred to Adam Schiff as an “aspiring fiction writer” during a Senate hearing.
  • Schiff was censured by the House for promoting discredited claims of Trump-Russia collusion.
  • Schiff responded to Zeldin’s remark by criticizing his stance on environmental issues.

During a recent Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee hearing, tensions flared when EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin made a pointed remark towards Democratic Senator Adam Schiff. The comment, “aspiring fiction writer,” was directed at Schiff, who has been criticized for his past assertions about alleged collusion between former President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia.

This exchange comes on the heels of a resolution passed by the House of Representatives, which censured Schiff for his role in promoting these now-discredited claims. The Steele Dossier, a key piece of evidence in these allegations, was later found to be unsubstantiated as per special counsel John Durham’s report, which stated that the FBI “did not and could not corroborate” the claims.

In response to Zeldin’s jab, Schiff retorted with a critique of Zeldin’s environmental policies, saying,
“Oh, yeah. Well, I understand your view that you can cut half of the agency and it won’t affect people’s health, or their water, their air. That, to me, is a big fiction, Mr. Zeldin.”

Schiff continued his rebuttal by addressing concerns over water safety in Santa Ana,
“I think Mr. Zeldin, if your children were drinking water, if your children were drinking water in Santa Ana, Mr. Zeldin, maybe you wouldn’t be so cavalier about whether there was lead in their water.”

The heated exchange highlights the ongoing tension between the two parties over environmental policy and past political controversies. As the debate over these issues continues, the remarks made during this hearing underscore the deep divisions that persist in Washington.
