- Among those hospitalized for gunshot wounds were six children.

Attendees of Saturday’s car show in southeast Arkansas ended up running for their lives when two people “got into a gunfight.” According to authorities, the shooting killed one person and left 27 injured.
Arkansas State Police and Dumas Police held a joint press conference late Sunday afternoon to discuss the details.
Shortly after 7 p.m., gunfire “swept through a crowd” during the event.
Arkansas State Police Colonel Bill Bryant said, “It was two individuals who got in a gunfight and exchanged gunfire and unfortunately we had [multiple] victims of the shooting incident.”
Officials have taken an unidentified individual into custody for unrelated charges. The search is still ongoing for the two people believed to have started the shooting.
Victims of the shooting included six children, who were treated at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, roughly 85 miles northwest of Dumas. As of Sunday afternoon, most of the victims have been treated and released from the hospital.
The shooting killed 23-year-old Cameron Shaffer from Jacksonville, Arkansas.
Bryant said that the violent incident rocked the small, farming community, with a population of roughly over 5,000. He said, “You just don’t expect that from small-town Arkansas.”
Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) took to Twitter to assure residents that he will look into “any steps that could have been taken to prevent this type of tragedy.”
Event organizer Wallace McGehee teared up when he expressed his condolences to the victims.
He told a reporter from local ABC affiliate KATV, “Something like this to happen, man, is a tragedy. We did this here for 16 years without a problem. … And we want our community to come back. Be strong. We’re gonna get through this.”
Chris Jones, a Democrat running for Arkansas governor, shared in a statement on Twitter that he attended the event earlier in the day. He wrote, “I am deeply saddened (and honestly angered) by this tragedy.”
