Nick Pivetta earned the start and received strong defensive support from Jackson Merrill early in the game. Merrill robbed Jackson Chourio of extra bases with a spectacular catch in the first inning.

The Padres jumped ahead in the third inning when Samad Taylor singled and stole second. Fernando Tatis Jr. drove in the first run, and Manny Machado added another RBI to give San Diego a 2-0 lead.

William Contreras answered for Milwaukee in the fourth with a long home run to left field off Pivetta. The Brewers trimmed the deficit to 2-1, but the Padres responded quickly.

Jake Cronenworth launched a solo home run in the fifth inning to restore the lead at 3-2. An error by Cooper Pratt later allowed Xander Bogaerts to score an insurance run, extending the advantage to 4-2.

Milwaukee chipped away in the eighth inning, scoring once to make it 4-3. Manager Craig Stammen turned to Michael King, who pitched the final two innings and stranded the tying run in the ninth to seal the win.
