The implication was clear — she was marking her calendar for payback.

Instead of fireworks, fans witnessed a fizzle. Carrington managed just seven points on dismal 3-of-11 shooting with one assist and one block in 18 minutes off the bench. She posted a minus-5 rating during her time on the court. By contrast, in the four minutes she played before her ejection in the previous meeting, she had eight points, a rebound, and was plus-6.

Sharp-eyed basketball fans quickly pointed out the ironic twist. The “8/23” Carrington hyped turned out to represent something entirely different: Caitlin Clark’s eight three-pointers and the Sky’s 23-point margin of defeat.
