In a recent conversation with David Axelrod, former Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo made a compelling case for wealth redistribution by advocating for tax hikes on the richest Americans. Raimondo expressed her belief that the current state of capitalism in the U.S. is unsustainable and poses a threat to democracy.
“I don’t think our democracy can survive a capitalism that’s playing out as it is today. I really don’t,” Raimondo stated. She acknowledged the American dream of becoming wealthy and successful but emphasized the need for higher taxes on the ultra-wealthy to fund essential investments in areas like education and infrastructure.
Her remarks, however, did not resonate with all attendees, as Axelrod humorously noted that those who refrained from applauding might be “among the ultra-wealthy.” Raimondo elaborated on the disconnect between the wealthy and the rest of society, highlighting how their lifestyles differ significantly from the average American’s experience.
“We’ve come to a place where people who have so much money are utterly detached from the rest of us,” she explained. Raimondo reminisced about a time when wealth disparities were less pronounced, suggesting that some level of redistribution is necessary for societal cohesion.
The conversation also touched on Raimondo’s openness to a potential presidential run in 2028. Meanwhile, prominent figures like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have proposed even steeper tax rates for the wealthy, advocating for rates of 70% or more.
Interestingly, some Republicans in Congress are also contemplating tax increases on the wealthy, marking a departure from traditional GOP principles. However, House Speaker Mike Johnson has expressed his opposition to such measures, indicating that they may not be included in the final version of the budget bill.

This is just another Neo-Socialist (Democrat) trying to prey upon the STUPIDITY of the Sheeple in her district! “Redistribution of Wealth” is a veiled way of saying the GOVERNMENTS OWNS EVERYTHING AND DECIDES WHO GETS WHAT!!! The hubris of American Socialist is beyond compare! Socialism has failed everywhere it has been implemented or is in the process of failure, but American Socialist, despite the GLARING, IN-YOUR-FACE EVIDENCE OF THIS FACT, they believe it’s failed because they’ve not been the ones in charge of it!

The fact that we tax the median American 24% at the federal level, around 2-3% at the state level, and another 2% locally on all of their income, but only charge the wealthy 15-20% on the majority of their income, is unfair taxation, but the wealthy, including Congress, won’t admit that. If we had a total flat tax of 25% on every single dime coming in, with no loopholes at all, it would not hurt the median Americans, and would save them a minimum of 3% of their incomes. If we also had a Standard Deductible of $30,000 per adult, and $3,000 per dependent child, the median American household could make as much as $66,000 before paying any taxes at all. Of course, the wealthy would then actually be paying their “fair share”, which would be considerably more than they pay now.
