Migrant Center Shootings in Brooklyn Elevate Fears of Venezuelan Gang Infiltration in the US

In the late hours of Sunday night, three migrants were shot in two separate incidents outside the Ryerson migrant center located in Brooklyn. Regrettably, two of these victims did not survive their injuries. As per multiple reports, the New York Police Department believes that these tragic events might involve members of a Venezuelan street gang.

“The shootings took place in two distinct locations at approximately 10:44 p.m.”, police revealed.

New York Attorney General Letitia James offered a different perspective, describing these incidents as “gun violence” without making reference to gang violence.

“Last night, two people were fatally shot and one critically injured in Clinton Hill due to gun violence”, she conveyed in a statement.

James highlighted her office’s role in the ongoing investigation. “My office is collaborating with the New York City Police Department and local elected officials to gather further information about these shootings and keep the community informed,” she mentioned.

James also asserted the necessity for additional measures to shield the community from the threat of gun violence. “We must strive harder to protect our communities from the dangers of gun violence and ensure that all our neighbors have access to the support they need and feel safe on our streets.”, she added.

The first man was shot near Flushing Avenue and Steuben Street, in close proximity to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Tragically, he passed away shortly after being transported to the Methodist Hospital.

Seven minutes later, two more men were ruthlessly shot down outside the migrant shelter. One of them, a 47-year-old man, was shot in the head and did not survive, while the third victim, who was hit multiple times, is currently holding on to his life at a hospital.

The NYPD believes that both shooting incidents – executed by the same perpetrator – are linked, and that all victims were migrants. They are working under the assumption that these shootings might involve the notorious Venezuelan street gang, Tren de Aragua.

The suspect, who was on a motorbike, was apprehended after being involved in a car accident near the second shooting scene.

Federal law enforcement is increasingly apprehensive about the infiltration of the dangerous Tren de Aragua gang into the U.S. This worry is heightened by the current escalating migrant crisis, which sees an increasing number of Venezuelans entering the U.S.

The apprehensions of Tren de Aragua members have reportedly risen, which has pushed the gang to the sixth spot on a list of over 50 gangs that Customs and Border Protection is keeping an eye on.
