  • Although one of the girls was found alive on December 4 in Long Beach, California, the police said they were alerted that the other was brought in at a local Nevada hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The search for two 15-year-old runaway girls has ended, leaving one alive in California and the other pronounced dead in a Nevada hospital, Painesville police announced.

According to a Facebook post on Saturday by the Painesville Police Department, the girl who died was identified as 15-year-old Kathryn McGuire. She, according to the police, was brought last Tuesday to Dignity Health Saint Rose Hospital in Henderson, Nevada, where she was pronounced dead. It is still unclear how Kathryn died.

Since Thanksgiving, Painesville police had been searching for her and her friend Haylie Vance.

Thankfully, Vance was found alive by the Long Beach California Police Department on Friday, Dec. 4, some days before Kathryn was found dead.

She later confirmed to authorities that she and McGuire had left Ohio voluntarily with Aaron Larkin, their 19-year-old friend from Painesville. She also added that all three of them were in California for at least six days.

Painesville police said Larkin had been with Kathryn in Nevada and is now being detained while the Henderson Police Department conducts an investigation into her death. Larkin has not been charged with any crime.

As per WOIO-TV reports on Sunday, the Clark County Coroner’s Office will not be releasing the details about the girl’s cause of death before Monday.

In the meantime, Kathryn’s mother, who had been updating friends via social media on the search for her daughter including pleas to her to come home, hasn’t posted any updates since December 3, the outlet reported.
