WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • The GOP is pushing for additional check payments in its latest proposal of stimulus aids to qualified Americans.
  • The latest relief bill also included several new cases that were not part of the first wave.
  • In the new plan, Americans qualified for the check with dependents would now receive $500 for every dependent.

Under the Republican’s latest proposal, Americans who received their first stimulus payment would likely get a second check. In some cases, there will be individuals who would get more.

The GOP plan revealed on Monday that it pushes for a part two of stimulus checks of up to $1,200 to citizens, plus a supplementary $500 for any dependent,  an essential departure from the first wave.

The latest package also considered the parents of older high schoolers and college undergraduates who were declared dependents for the aid, including those who have elderly loved under their care who are also dependents.

In part one of stimulus payments, the only ones qualified for the extra $500 are parents of child dependents under 17 years of age.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R, IA, said on Monday during a Senate session that they already included other cases of dependents this time.

Earlier, the Democrats’ economic aid proposal under the HEROES Act also recommended that taxpayers receive an additional dependent bonus for every dependent declared on their filed tax return. However, the plan also proposed a bigger aid of $1,200 per dependent.

In general, the Republican plan for part two of the stimulus checks streamlines the first and the second as far as recipient eligibility is concerned.

Like the first wave, single grown-ups who earn up to $75,000 would be qualified for the full package, while reduced payments would be for single people who have an income of between $75,001 to $99,000.

Married couples, meanwhile, who have combined earnings of up to $150,000 would receive $2,400, while those who have incomes of $150,001 up to $198,000 would receive lesser aid.

Also, Americans eligible for the economic check and have dependents would receive $500 more in every dependent.

The taxpayer’s most recent tax filing for 2019 or 2018 plus adjusted gross income will be the basis for the qualification. Just like the first leg, the aid will also be available to Social Security beneficiaries.

Single adults who earn over $99,000 and married couples make more than $198,000 are not to receive stimulus aid.

Under the GOP proposal, those who do not have Social Security numbers and aliens who are nonresidents, not citizens of the U.S,  and non-green cardholders would not be qualified for assistance.

Moreover, the GOP’S proposal also discounts imprisoned individuals for the payment. Anybody who was listed as dependent on someone else’s tax returns would not be qualified as well.

Any person who died before Jan. 1, 2020 are also not eligible for a second check, which was oddly enough, included on the first wave.
