Trump frustrated with Fox News for “doing nothing to help Republicans and me”

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • President Donald Trump tweeted on Thursday, expressing his disappointment over Fox News for doing nothing to help Republicans and him for their reelection bid in November.
  • Trump’s latest dismay came days after Fox News Anchor Neil Cavuto criticized him for taking the hydroxychloroquine drug, without evidence that it would cure COVID-19.
  • According to Pew Research Center, 93 percent of Fox News prime viewers identify themselves as “Republican” but only 65 percent claim they trust the network over the others.

President Donald Trump on Thursday expressed his disappointment over Fox News, his favorite network, accusing that it is doing nothing to help him and other Republicans get re-elected for November elections.

“Many will disagree, but @FoxNews is doing nothing to help Republicans, and me, get re-elected on November 3rd. Sure, there are some truly GREAT people on Fox, but you also have some real ‘garbage’ littered all over the network, people like Dummy Juan Williams, Schumerite Chris Hahn, Richard Goodstein, Donna Brazile, Niel [sic] Cavuto, and many others,” Trump tweeted on Thursday.

“They repeat the worst of the Democrat speaking points, and lies. All of the good is totally nullified, and more. Net Result = BAD! CNN & MSDNC are all in for the Do Nothing Democrats! Fox WAS Great!”

Trump’s latest dismay on the news network came days after anchor Neil Cavuto criticized the president over declaring that he’s taking the hydroxychloroquine drug, an anti-malaria medicine, to cure possible COVID-19 infection.

“If you are in a risky population here, and you are taking this as a preventative treatment to ward off the virus or, in a worst-case scenario, you are dealing with the virus, and you are in this vulnerable population, it will kill you. I cannot stress enough: This will kill you,” Cavuto said after Trump announced that he was taking the medicine.

Responding to Cavuto’s comments, the president tweeted that he was “looking for a new outlet” to watch.

Last month, Fox News cut ties with Diamond and Silk, former duo hosts, after floating the idea that the coronavirus was spread intentionally in the US to hurt the president’s political status. Trump again voiced his disappointment.

Based on the tracking by Pew Research Center, 93 percent of Fox News viewers said that it is their main source of political news — they also identify themselves as “Republican or leaning to the party.” However, only 65 percent of general Republicans said they trust Fox News over other outlets. This could be the reason why Trump is getting frustrated with the network, so he could take sides with the Republican viewers in favor of his reelection.

Even if Trump could secure the favor of his base, Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday found that by a small margin, more Democrats (88 percent) said they planned to support former Vice President Joe Biden on November 3 versus Republicans (87 percent) who plan to vote for Trump.

Biden leads Trump nationally by a margin of 50 percent to 39 percent, based on the poll.

Over the past two months, Trump has lauded reporters from One America News Network, which gives him preferential treatment on its reports.
