Clear Facts

  • President Trump called the Tennessee special election for the 7th Congressional District a critical moment for Republicans, aiming to surpass his 2024 victory margin.
  • He rallied support for GOP candidate Matt Van Epps in a tele-rally alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson and other GOP leaders.
  • Over 84,000 early votes have been cast; polls remain open until 7:00 p.m. CST.

President Trump described the special election to fill Mark Green’s seat as significant for maintaining a GOP edge in Congress. He urged voters to deliver a bigger win than his own 2024 performance in the district.

“This is a big deal, because right now we’re like, three votes up on the radical left, and this would be a wonderful victory for us,” Trump said. “It’ll be really a positive sign.”

Appearing on a call with Speaker Mike Johnson, Trump expressed confidence in Matt Van Epps and stressed the importance of every vote in a tightly divided House. Johnson emphasized the need for Van Epps in Washington due to the narrow Republican majority.

Trump encouraged strong Republican turnout, emphasizing the importance of electing someone who supports traditional values.

“I am asking all America First Patriots in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District to please GET OUT AND VOTE TOMORROW for a phenomenal Candidate, Matt Van Epps, on Election Day, Tuesday, December 2nd!” Trump said. “HE WILL BE A GREAT CONGRESSMAN and, unlike his Opponent, he cherishes Christianity and Country Music — She has openly stated that she hates them both!”

Republican leaders, including Speaker Johnson, Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, and Governor Bill Lee, have all been active in supporting Van Epps. Senator Hagerty noted that Democrats hope to leverage higher urban turnout against rural Republican voters and characterized Tennessee’s 7th District as a conservative stronghold.

More than 84,000 voters have already participated during early voting, and polls will close at 7:00 p.m. CST.
