WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • President Donald Trump’s campaign has dropped numerous claims in their lawsuit in Pennsylvania, the Washington Post reported on Sunday.
  • The updated lawsuit seeks to prohibit the validation of votes of people who were allowed to fix errors on their ballot.
  • The Trump campaign has continuously claimed that their election watchers were prevented from observing the vote-counting in Pennsylvania.

On Sunday, the Washington Post reported that President Donald Trump’s campaign largely withdrew a part of the suit it initially filed in Pennsylvania regarding the accusation that observers were not permitted to monitor the vote counts.

The president’s legal counsel on Sunday filed another lawsuit while asking to drop their original request of an emergency order to stop the certification of ballots, claiming that “Trump campaign’s watchers were prevented from observing.”

The updated suit ditched paragraphs from the original suit that tackled the complaints that poll watchers were not able to check the voting count.

The new lawsuit has sought to prohibit the ballot validation of voters who got approval to fix errors on their ballot. It claimed that such incident has “illegally disadvantaged” Republicans.

“Now you’re only talking about a handful of ballots… They would have absolutely no impact on the total count or on Joe Biden’s win over Donald Trump,” Democrats election lawyer Cliff told The Post.

In a tweet, Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani reacted to The Post’s report.

“Do not use the law firm of Swaine & Viebeck,” he tweeted, adding that the reporters “didn’t read para 132-150 which repeat all the allegations of the 680,777 mail-in votes which were deliberately concealed from Republican inspectors.”

The accusations were still part of the lawsuit. Giuliani, however, did not elaborate their dismissal on request to block the ballot certification.

Trump also responded to The Post’s report that his campaign revised their position on the case.

“Why does the Fake News Media continuously assume that Joe Biden will ascend to the Presidency, not even allowing our side to show, which we are just getting ready to do, how badly shattered and violated our great Constitution has been in the 2020 Election,” Trump tweeted on Sunday night.

Insider has reached out to Giuliani and Trump’s campaign for comment and yet to get a response.

Trump and his campaign have repeatedly claimed that their poll watchers were not granted to observe vote counts, and hence, they were pushing to nullify over 600,000 votes counted in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

The president has also said that he won’t concede to President-elect Joe Biden and would continue to pursue legal action to contest the election results.
