  • President Donald Trump announced the development of a new 6th generation fighter jet, the F-47.
  • The program will be developed by Boeing, ending Lockheed Martin’s exclusive role in producing stealth fighters.
  • Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth praised the program for ensuring future air dominance and boosting military recruitment.

In a significant move to enhance the U.S. military’s combat capabilities, President Donald Trump unveiled plans for a groundbreaking 6th generation fighter jet program.

During a press conference, Trump stated, “At my direction, the United States Air Force is moving forward with the world’s first 6th generation fighter jet.” He proudly introduced the aircraft as the F-47, emphasizing its unparalleled features.

The president described this new initiative as “something, the likes of which, nobody has seen before in all of the attributes of a fighter jet.” He highlighted its superior speed, maneuverability, and payload, asserting that “there’s nothing anything even close to it.”

Boeing has been chosen to develop these advanced fighter jets, marking a shift from Lockheed Martin’s previous dominance in the production of stealth fighters like the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

While Trump refrained from disclosing the program’s cost, he cited concerns about revealing sensitive information to adversaries regarding the jets’ size and technology.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, present at the announcement, expressed enthusiasm for the program’s impact.

“This is a big day for our warfighters, a big day for our country, [and] a big day for our world,” Hegseth remarked. He credited Trump’s leadership for ensuring America’s future air superiority, stating that the program “sends a very direct, clear message to our allies that we’re not going anywhere and to our enemies that we will be able to project power around the globe, unimpeded, for generations to come.”

The announcement also coincides with a notable increase in military recruitment since Trump’s election.

The Army reported record-high recruiting numbers in December 2024, the best for that month in 15 years, with similar success in January. Other branches, including the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force, are on track to exceed their 2025 targets.

This surge contrasts with previous struggles under Joe Biden’s administration, with all branches, except the Marine Corps, failing to meet recruiting goals.
