Vice Adm. Brad Cooper, deputy commander of U.S. Central Command, issued a warning to the Iranian public about what he called reckless behavior by the country’s ruling government.

He said the United States is targeting regime infrastructure, not Iranian citizens.

The admiral also accused Iranian leadership of cowardice, saying senior generals are hiding in deep bunkers near Tehran.

He said ordinary soldiers and civilians are being used as shields for missile launches in populated areas.

“The government, they could stop this war right now, absolutely, if they chose to do so,” Cooper said.

“They need to stop putting the wonderful Iranian people at risk,” he added.

“They have no care for the people. They’re threatening their own people.”

The commander said Iranian-backed forces have carried out at least 300 attacks against civilian targets across the Middle East.

He told the Iranian public to stay indoors until a clear signal comes from leadership.

“For the Iranian people, the wonderful Iranian people who I’ve gotten to know over several years, including living in the region for many years, extraordinary culture, deep culture of thousands of years, my main message is this: First and foremost, we are attacking the regime in the Islamic Republic, not the wonderful people.”

“Third, there will be a clear signal at some point, as the President has indicated, for you to be able to come out.”

Cooper said the public should understand that their leaders are protected while ordinary people remain vulnerable.

He added that many Iranians likely want regional stability, but their government continues to block it.
