Washington state politicians respond to Trump’s threat to ‘take back’ Seattle: ‘Go back to your bunker’

Washington state politicians fired back against President Donald Trump and told him to go back to his bunker after he threatened to “take back” Seattle from protesters.

Trump had addressed Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) and Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan (D) on Wednesday in a since-deleted Twitter post that read, “Take back your city NOW. If you don’t do it, I will. This is not a game. These ugly Anarchists must be stooped IMMEDIATELY. MOVE FAST!”

The Seattle protests, which started after a cop killed George Floyd in Minneapolis last month, had featured violent clashes with police.

The police then pulled back from the area earlier this week “to proactively de-escalate interactions between protestors and law enforcement,” Mayor Durkan explained.

Several blocks have since been taken over by demonstrators, who declared the area the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” or “CHAZ,” where they now hold peaceful protests.

Trump expressed his disagreement with the police pullback and threatened to take back Seattle.

Durkan fired back, “Make us all safe. Go back to your bunker,” referring to the time when Trump was rushed to the White House bunker during the D.C. protests.

Trump insisted that he was merely inspecting the bunker when Secret Service agents rushed him there. But Attorney General Bill Barr confirmed earlier this week that the president was taken to the bunker for his own safety.

Seattle Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) also referred to the bunker incident, saying, “Don’t you have a bunker to be in?”

Gov. Inslee also told the president off, saying, “A man who is totally incapable of governing should stay out of Washington state’s business. “Stoop” tweeting.”
