WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Riley June Williams, the rioter that stole House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s laptop during the January 6 Capitol violence, was arrested on Monday.
  • Williams is charged with unlawful trespassing, violent entry, and disorderly conduct.
  • It is still unclear whether Williams still has the laptop.

Riley June Williams ━ the woman whom the FBI said has stolen the laptop of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA.) during the January 6 US Capitol riot ━ has been arrested.

The agency also got a tip that Williams attempted to sell the laptop to a Russian friend, which did not materialize for unknown reasons.

According to the Justice Department’s website tracking list of arrests related to the siege, Williams was arrested on Monday in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. She was one of over 100 arrested individuals involved in storming the Capitol. The rage resulted in five deaths including one police official.

Williams is charged with unlawful trespassing, violent entry, and disorderly conduct on the country’s legislative house.

In a court filing on Sunday, the FBI claimed that a witness, who identified himself as the rioter’s former love partner, told the agency that Williams “intended to send the computer device to a friend in Russia, who then planned to sell the device to SVR, Russia’s foreign intelligence service.”

Her partner also showed a video of Williams, showing her stealing the laptop from Pelosi’s office. The video was obtained by the FBI.

In another video, Williams was also seen as apparently directing some rioters to flock to the Speaker’s office.

According to Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff Drew Hammill, a laptop that was used for presentations was stolen from the speaker’s office following the riot. It is still unclear, though, if the laptop that was missing was the same laptop that Williams took.

It is still unknown whether Williams still has the laptop or had already disposed it.
