  • The Trump administration expanded visa restrictions targeting people tied to adversarial powers.
  • Officials said the State Department placed restrictions on 26 people to protect national security.

Representative Chip Roy introduced the PAUSE Act after reports of visa fraud by foreign nationals. The proposal is aimed at halting immigration and reforming what supporters call a broken system.

National Security Measures

The Trump administration announced a major expansion of visa restrictions in the Western Hemisphere. Officials said the policy is intended to stop adversarial powers from controlling key regional assets or threatening American prosperity.

“President Trump’s National Security Strategy makes clear: this Administration will deny adversarial powers the ability to own or control vital assets or threaten the security and prosperity of the United States in our region,” the department said in a press release.

The policy targets individuals who knowingly fund or support activities that undermine American interests. Immediate family members of those individuals will also generally be ineligible for entry into the United States.

“The Trump Administration will use every available tool to protect our national security interests, defend American interests, and promote our region’s safety and prosperity.”

Legislators are also urging the Senate to take up the Save America Act to further secure the border. Supporters say the measures reflect a focus on protecting Americans and strengthening national security.
