ICE Raids Ilhan Omar Home Over Immigration Fraud Probe

Clear Facts
- ICE agents executed a court-authorized search warrant at Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington-area home as part of a federal criminal fraud investigation into her immigration paperwork.
- The congresswoman has been a U.S. citizen for 26 years after arriving as a child refugee, and she has denied any wrongdoing.
- Republicans argue that no one is above the law and that citizenship records of elected officials should face proper scrutiny.
Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations carried out the early-morning raid under a valid judicial order.
The investigation centers on naturalization documents submitted when Omar was a minor.
“Nobody is above the law. HSI just executed a search warrant at Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C. home. We look forward to learning more details about this raid and investigation. ACCOUNTABILITY IS COMING!”
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., issued that statement shortly after the operation became public.
Republicans note that congressional efforts to obtain Omar’s immigration records through oversight channels had been blocked in the past.
“I tried to subpoena Ilhan Omar and her brother-husband’s immigration records. Both parties blocked it in Oversight. If the fraud is proven, she should be denaturalized and deported home to Somalia.”
Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., wrote those words on social media, highlighting the need for transparency.
Democrats responded by labeling the raid an abuse of power and an attempt to silence political opposition.
“Donald Trump has been obsessed with Rep. Omar. He has gone after her repeatedly, causing her severe harm and going after the entire Somali American population.”
Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., posted that assessment online.
Other Democrats echoed similar concerns about the timing and motivation behind the action.
“This raid on Rep. Omar’s home is an outrageous abuse of power by ICE. Rep. Omar has been a U.S. citizen for 26 years. She came to the United States as a child and was legally admitted as a refugee.”
Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., issued that statement in response to the raid.
Republicans counter that equal application of immigration law should apply to every citizen, including members of Congress.
“If Ilhan Omar lied on her immigration paperwork, she should be denaturalized and deported — the same as anyone else. No more special treatment.”
Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., made that argument in defense of the investigation.
The raid comes amid renewed national focus on immigration enforcement and citizenship integrity.
