Winds cause major incident at Imperial Dock in Edinburgh [Video]

Strong winds have caused a research vessel, RV Petrel, to capsize at Imperial Dock in Leith, Edinburgh. The 250ft ship is owned by the estate of Microsoft billionaire Paul Allen and was used to find historic shipwrecks.

Emergency services, including police, ambulance, and fire service, have been deployed to the scene. Reports suggest that as many as 10 people may be injured, and there are fears that two are missing. Members of the public have been advised to avoid the area to allow emergency services access.

Edinburgh City council leader Cammy Day has expressed concern that there may be a dozen people who’ve been injured to some extent. According to Daily Record, he believes there were around 50 people on board the vessel at the time of the incident.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has dispatched five ambulances, an air ambulance, three trauma teams, a special operations team, three paramedic response units, and one patient transport vehicle. Meanwhile, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has deployed four appliances and a number of specialist resources.

The coastguard has also sent teams to the scene to assist with the multi-agency response. HM Coastguard rescue teams from Fisherrow, South Queensferry, and Kinghorn were dispatched to the incident at around 9:30 am. Dales Marine Services, which runs the dry dock, has declined to comment on the incident.
