Clear Facts

  • The world’s number one risk in 2024 is “The United States vs. itself,” according to Eurasia Group president Ian Bremmer.
  • Bremmer predicts continued damage to America’s social fabric, political institutions, and international standing, regardless of the election outcome.
  • Other threats listed include escalating Middle East conflict, ungoverned AI, and deepening ties among Russia, Iran, and North Korea.

Eurasia Group president Ian Bremmer has identified the top risk for 2024 as “The United States vs. itself”. In his report “Top Risks 2024”, Bremmer points to the increasing internal strife within the United States as the primary global concern.

Driving this prediction, Bremmer states, “With the outcome of the vote essentially a coin toss (at least for now), the only certainty is continued damage to America’s social fabric, political institutions, and international standing.” This suggests that regardless of the election outcome, the U.S. will continue to grapple with internal divisions that could have far-reaching implications.

Bremmer’s list of top risks for 2024 also includes other significant threats. One of these is the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Bremmer warns, “The current fighting in Gaza is likely to be only the first phase in an expanding conflict in 2024.”

Another major risk identified by Bremmer is the threat of ungoverned AI. He notes, “In a year when four billion people will head to the polls, generative AI will be used by domestic and foreign actors — notably Russia — to influence electoral campaigns, stoke division, undermine trust in democracy, and sow political chaos on an unprecedented scale.”

The final risk highlighted in the report is the deepening ties among Russia, Iran, and North Korea, which Bremmer suggests could threaten global stability. These “axis of rogues” are seen as a potential destabilizing force in the international arena.

Clear Thoughts (op-ed)

Ian Bremmer’s assertion that the number one risk in 2024 is “The United States vs. itself” is a grim diagnosis, but one that resonates with the reality we’re experiencing. Our social fabric is indeed fraying, and our political institutions are suffering.

Our international standing is also tarnished, but not beyond repair. The point of divergence lies in the belief that this state of affairs is inevitable, regardless of the election outcome. This fatalistic view ignores the power of conservative principles that prioritize unity, patriotism, and the rule of law.

The escalating Middle East conflict and the threat of ungoverned AI are indeed global concerns. However, the latter, specifically, can be mitigated with strong governmental oversight and regulation, not dismissed as an uncontrollable force.

Lastly, Bremmer’s “axis of rogues” — Russia, Iran, and North Korea — is a stark reminder that we need strong, principled leadership. Not to further polarize and divide us, but to unite us in the face of shared threats.

Absolutely true Captain America. The democrat party no longer has a moral compass or code of ethics. Its corruption will bee the downfall of the United States.
