In the early hours of Monday morning, a devastating landslide struck the mountains of Yunnan province, China, killing nine people and burying at least 47 others alive. The landslide affected 18 households across two villages, according to Reuters.

Authorities are now battling freezing temperatures and snowy conditions in a desperate attempt to find survivors.
