Donny Deutsch: AOC and Bernie Sanders Representing the Democrats ‘Scares Me’

Clear Facts
- Branding expert Donny Deutsch expressed concern over the prominence of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Party.
- Senator Chris Murphy argued that Bernie Sanders has a broad appeal across different political backgrounds.
- Former Democratic megadonor John Morgan suggested that the anti-oligarchy tour by Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders could energize Trump supporters.
Branding expert Donny Deutsch recently voiced his apprehensions about the influence of Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders within the Democratic Party. He highlighted how their visibility could allow Republicans to depict the Democrats as leaning too far left.
“What scares me — some of the big voices out there: AOC, Bernie Sanders,” Deutsch remarked. He elaborated that while their economic populism might resonate, their image could alienate swing voters by suggesting the party is excessively left-leaning.
In response, Democratic Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy offered a differing perspective. He emphasized Sanders’ ability to attract a diverse audience, including some from former President Donald Trump’s base.
“I mean, he’s got, you know, folks that are sort of traditionally hard left, but he, you know, also has always had crossover appeal into some of Trump’s base,” Murphy stated. He further explained Sanders’ focus on economic fairness as a unifying theme.
Murphy also touched on the broader direction of the Democratic Party, suggesting it should return to being a “big-tent party.” He noted, “Whether Bernie Sanders is the leader or not, I don’t really know or care.”
Former Democratic megadonor John Morgan shared his thoughts on the potential repercussions of the anti-oligarchy tour led by Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders. He warned that their efforts might inadvertently energize Trump supporters.
“See, AOC and Bernie [galvanize] MAGA because MAGA hates them,” Morgan commented, indicating the polarizing effect they have on the political landscape.
Meanwhile, Democratic New York Rep. Ritchie Torres weighed in on the party’s strategic direction following the November 2024 election loss. Although he didn’t name Sanders or Ocasio-Cortez, he criticized the notion of moving further left as a misguided response to the defeat.
“I find it odd now there’s an argument in order to, you know, reverse the results of the 2024 election, we have to embrace the far left,” Torres said, expressing his skepticism about such a strategy.

Conservatives hate far left. No it is all haye from the left for the right. we do not even understand why the left does what it does to destroy America; we all know socialism does not work. Ask Venezuela it was the tenth richest nation in the world till they voted in a socialist.
