ICE Director Resigns as Border Enforcement Faces a New Test

Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Todd Lyons submitted his resignation to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. Lyons cited a desire to spend more time with his family as his sons reach pivotal points in their upbringing.
The outgoing director previously served in the U.S. Air Force special forces and dedicated two decades to ICE.
Supporters credited him with revitalizing an agency that had been restricted from performing its core mission for four years.
“Director Lyons has been a great leader of ICE and key player in helping the Trump administration remove murderers, rapists, pedophiles, terrorists and gang members from American communities,” Mullin stated.
“He jumpstarted an agency that had not been allowed to do its job for four years. Thanks to his leadership, American communities are safer.”
Top officials praised Lyons for his commitment to national security and the removal of criminal aliens. Border Czar Tom Homan noted that Lyons achieved record removals despite significant challenges facing the department.
“Todd has served selflessly as a highly respected and effective acting Director of U.S. ICE,” Homan said.
“Under his leadership, ICE achieved a record number of removals in the first year of this Administration, despite unprecedented challenges, delivering on the President’s promise to deport illegal aliens who have no right to be in the U.S., especially those that are public safety risks or pose a threat to our national security.”
Stephen Miller described Lyons as a patriot who was central to efforts intended to reverse the border invasion.
Miller emphasized that his work saved thousands of American lives and restored safety to communities across the nation.
“Todd is a phenomenal patriot and dedicated leader who has been at the center of President Trump’s historic efforts to secure our homeland and reverse the Democrats’ sinister border invasion,” Miller said.
“His courageous work at ICE has saved countless thousands of American lives and helped deliver safety and tranquility to millions of Americans.”
Secretary Mullin confirmed that Lyons will transition to the private sector following his official departure in May. The administration expressed gratitude for his distinguished law enforcement career and contributions to the country.
