WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • British TV personality Piers Morgan advised longtime friend President Donald Trump to focus on the American people, instead of politics, in dealing with the coronavirus crisis.
  • In his recent CNN interview, Morgan addressed Trump directly and said that he will win the November election if he deals with the crisis right and will lose if he keeps on playing politics.
  • Morgan and Trump have known each other for over a decade and in his journalistic columns, Morgan says that he assumes a “critical friend” perspective when writing about Trump.

Former CNN host and English TV personality Piers Morgan advised President Donald Trump to make the fight against the coronavirus crisis about the American people and not about himself.

This is after Morgan noticed that the frequent White House briefings to address the pandemic is “turning into a self-aggrandizing, self-justifying, overly defensive, politically partisan” which Morgan said seemed to be a rally for President Trump to win the November election.

In his recent interview on CNN’s “Reliable Sources”, Morgan addressed Trump directly and said that he “will win the election if he gets to address the crisis right by making it about the people’s welfare and by showing that he cares about them over himself”.

He also added that he will lose if he continues to play politics and to target Democrat governors for electoral purposes.

Morgan and Trump have built a bond for over a decade. Morgan served as a judge on America’s Got Talent when he was cast on The Celebrity Apprentice in 2008. The celebrity candidates of this reality game show vied for the title of Donald Trump’s “Best Business Brain” and Morgan won this apprentice title in the season finale.

As a journalist for The Daily Mail, Morgan has both defended and rebuked his friend in various columns.

During one of his interviews, Morgan said that in writing about Trump, he assumes a “critical friend” perspective. He also mentioned that the president still follows him on Twitter.

Morgan has been calling on to British lawmakers and health officials, as well. He challenged them on the shortcomings in dealing with the coronavirus crisis in the country and earned applause from the public in doing so.
