Paris’s 2024 Olympic Village Plans Go Green but Athletes Struggle to Keep Cool

Clear Facts

  • For the 2024 Olympics, officials in Paris are strategizing to omit air conditioning from the Olympic Village, aiming to organize the “greenest ever Games”.
  • Nevertheless, athletes are voicing anxieties over this decision due to potential high temperatures. Several countries, including the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Japan, and Australia, have decided to bring their own AC units.
  • Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo criticizes teams bringing their own ACs, underscoring the necessity to rely on science for creating a sustainable future.

As a part of their aim to organize the “greenest ever Games,” Olympics officials in Paris have decided to exclude air conditioning from the 2024 Olympic Village. However, athletes are not exactly enthusiastic about the idea and are contemplating measures to bypass this drive for sustainability.

Instead of traditional air conditioning, officials have suggested an alternative cooling system. This would comprise a network of water pipes beneath the floorboards of the athletes’ residences.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo stated, “This village was designed to abstain from the need for air conditioning, even in extremely high temperatures, to maintain comfortable temperatures.”

Athletes, however, are not sold on this notion. Given that France bore the brunt of an intense heatwave last summer, causing more than 5,000 fatalities, athletes worry that this unconventional cooling system might prove to be insufficient. Consequently, the U.S. team, among others, has disclosed their plans to bring their own AC units to the Olympic Village, despite the objections of Paris Olympics officials.

Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), confirmed this decision, stating, “In our discussions with athletes, this was a high priority and something that the athletes considered crucial for their performance capability and the predictability and consistency of their accustomed environment.” She promptly added that the USOPC has “great respect” for the Paris officials and their commitment to “sustainability.”

Other nations joining the U.S. in this decision include Canada, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Japan, and Australia. The Australian Olympic Committee is even dedicating $100,000 to AC units, with its representative, Matt Carroll, stating, “We appreciate the concept of not having air conditioning due to the carbon footprint. But it is a high-performance Games. We’re not going for a picnic.”

Mayor Hidalgo has expressed her displeasure with the teams disregarding the science behind global warming, stating, “The first thing is what scientists are telling us about the fact that we are on the brink of a precipice. Everyone, including the athletes, must be aware of this. And secondly, we have to trust the scientists when they assist us in constructing buildings in a way that allows us to do without air conditioning.”

Stupid is as stupid does. These are the Olympics not some street games. These athletes do not train in scorching hot weather which BTW is totally unhealthy. Shame on France for trying to make a point.

NONE of this so-called “Green” stuff is really GREEN, it is all reliant on fake data, fake “green” technology, and lots of highly toxic Rare Earth Metals that are not recyclable nor reusable at the End of Life of the products.
Wind Turbine blades wear out and are just buried as there is nothing else you can do with them. The turbines themselves use gobs of lubricating oil. and are subject to burning to the ground. They will never even replace the energy needed to manufacture, construct, maintain, and End of Life Disposal.

Man is not God and can not destroy the earth. This ‘green deal’ is nothing more than taking control of people, robing them of ‘God given freedom’. Quit trying to play god.

Oh yeah. Perform at your highest potential with the temps above 90!! Can you understand the concept of “heat stroke”? Sure. Cool off the floors with water pipes. How about cold air on the athletes! One cannot sleep in temps above 78F for maximum comfort. France, you did it now. Now, let’s talk about those rock-hard, cardboard beds………

The mayor’s information is faulty! While one should conserve and preserve the world we live in, living a lie is not acceptable. Weather historians can tell you the earth has been through many weather cycles. There have been hotter and cooler times. Playing politics with people’s lives and well-being is a cruel game. We adapt to the weather we are given and air conditioning is part of it. Let’s ask the mayor to remove her head from the sand and welcome her visitors with sanity and great accommodations!!!!
