Jacoby Jones, an unforgettable presence in the 2013 Super Bowl for the Baltimore Ravens, passed away due to hypertensive cardiovascular disease. The disease, influenced by enduring high blood pressure, led to Jones’ untimely death, as reported by a Louisiana medical examiner’s office.

Jones was found deceased in his New Orleans residence on July 14, having died in his sleep. His death is listed as a natural one, as per the Orleans Parish coroner’s office.

Jones’ three-year tenure with the Ravens has been marked by his infectious charisma and his notable contributions. Particularly memorable were his actions in the Super Bowl more than a decade ago.

In the high-stakes event, Jones received a 56-yard touchdown pass. His 108-yard kickoff return at the beginning of the second half played a crucial role in elevating the Ravens to a 34-31 triumph over the San Francisco 49ers.

Jones also made a significant impact in the divisional playoff round against the Denver Broncos. With just seconds left on the clock, Jones caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from teammate Joe Flacco. This action, known as the “Mile High Miracle,” led to an overtime for the game. The Ravens emerged victorious in double overtime with a score of 38-35.

Jones’ football career started with him being a third-round pick for the Houston Texans out of Lane College. Before retiring in 2017, Jones also served stints with the Chargers and Steelers.

Jones had just celebrated his 40th birthday three days before his sudden death.

John Harbaugh, the Ravens’ head coach, paid his respects to Jones: “Jacoby had the unique ability to connect with everyone he encountered. His charisma, joy, and love created a one-of-a-kind presence that could light up any room or brighten any dark day.”

Ravens teammate and Hall of Famer, Ray Lewis, also paid tribute to Jones at the time of his death, “My brother, you will truly be missed. They can’t take the memories and the hard work you put in on and off the football field. You always gave back and were always a pillar in the community, a Raven for life. Love ya JJ.”
