WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • GOP Rep. Marjorie Greene (GA.) filed on Thursday articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden.
  • Greene suggested that Biden abused his authority as former Vice President when he meddled with his son, Hunter, in Ukrainian business dealings.
  • Last year, the Senate found no evidence to prove that the Bidens made any wrongdoing in accordance with the US foreign policy.

A day after President Joe Biden’s inauguration, Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Greene (GA.) announced that she has filed articles of impeachment against the new president.

The articles of impeachment’s content was not yet available as of this publication. Greene, though, pointed out that Biden abused his position as the former vice president helped his son, Hunter, in serving as a board member of a Ukrainian energy company.

“President Joe Biden is unfit to hold the office of the presidency. His pattern of abuse of power as President Obama’s Vice President is lengthy and disturbing. President Biden has demonstrated that he will do whatever it takes to bail out his son, Hunter, and line his family’s pockets with cash from corrupt foreign energy companies,” Greene said in a statement.

Last week, Greene said that she would file an impeachment case against the president a day after he was sworn into office. She announced her intentions after the House voted to impeach former President Donald Trump for provoking his supporters to storm into the US Capitol on January 6, which ended in five deaths including one Capitol policeman.

Last year, GOP senators launched an investigation to probe allegations of corruption against the Bidens but concluded that there was no evidence to prove any irregularities. The report, which was issued last September, did not find any factual basis that Hunter’s stint in Ukrainian company Burisma breached the country’s foreign policy.

Biden has repeatedly denied any claims of wrongdoing, arguing that he did not use his authority to do something that should have not been done.

Meanwhile, the Democrat-controlled House has yet to officially submit the article of impeachment against Trump to the Senate.

Senate Democrat Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (KY.) were still finalizing a power-sharing agreement as the Senate is equally divided to both parties. Vice President Kamala Harris, who will be seating as Senate President, will break the tie and hand over the control of the chamber to Democrats on Wednesday when she swears in.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that they were waiting for both Senate leaders to make a consensus before the House turns over the impeachment case.

“I’m not going to be telling you when it is going, but we had to wait for the Senate to be in session. They’ve now informed us they’re ready to receive. The question is, other questions about how a trial will proceed, but we are ready,” Pelosi said on Thursday.
