Clear Facts

  • Senator Susan Collins opposes the inclusion of biological males in female sports, aligning with President Trump and many Americans.
  • Collins criticizes a Maine state law allowing transgender athletes to compete in girls’ sports, stating it contradicts Title IX’s intent.
  • She emphasizes the importance of maintaining the original purpose of Title IX, which is to ensure fair and safe athletic opportunities for girls and women.

In a bold stance against the current administration in Maine, Senator Susan Collins has voiced her opposition to the state’s policy on transgender athletes. Her position aligns with President Donald Trump and a significant portion of the American public who believe that biological males should not participate in female sports.

Collins, who holds the record for the longest service in Congress from Maine, expressed her concerns about the state law permitting transgender athletes to compete in girls’ sports, noting that it contradicts the “spirit and intent of Title IX.”

“I believe that the State of Maine is under scrutiny because of the state law that allows biological males to play in girls’ sports,” Collins stated.

She further explained that this law opposes not only the President’s executive order but also the foundational principles of Title IX, which was designed to provide equitable athletic opportunities for girls in a safe and fair environment.

While Collins acknowledges the need to treat transgender individuals with dignity and respect, she insists that this should not come at the expense of the values and standards established by Title IX.

“Title IX, which was passed in 1972, has greatly expanded opportunities for girls and young women to participate in organized sports at the high school and college levels,” she emphasized.

Collins highlighted that the success of Title IX is rooted in its mandate for equal access to athletic resources based on sex, not gender identity. She firmly believes that allowing transgender athletes to compete in girls’ and women’s sports undermines this success.

“I will continue to advocate for Maine to receive its fair share of federal funding, something I have done successfully so far, but I support the original intent behind Title IX,” Collins concluded.

This issue has sparked significant debate, with Collins standing firm in her belief that the original intent of Title IX must be preserved to ensure fair competition for female athletes.

I have been a Pride supporter forever, but I have pulled it back a bit over this question. I strongly feel the need for fairness in an unfair world. Letting a post-puberty biological male with the hormone-influenced muscle-skeletal body compete against female athletes is about as unfair as it gets.

Transsexuals are neither male or female, they are neuter.
