WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were met with wild chants of protest upon their funeral visit to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the Supreme Court on Thursday.
  • Trump stood a few moments beside Ginsburg’s casket at the front doors of the court and walked back inside the halls as chants of “vote him out” and “honor her wish” grew louder.
  • The president will announce his SC nominee after the funeral services of Ginsburg ━ a move backed by the GOP senators but strongly opposed by the Democrats.

Upon their funeral visit to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the Supreme Court on Thursday, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were welcomed with shouts of protest.

Crowds chanted “honor her wish” ⏤ citing Ginsburg’s final wish as she told her granddaughter that her seat should be filled by the next president. The public also booed and shouted “vote him out” which was carried live on TV outlets during the president’s visit.

The Trump couple spent a few moments silently standing beside Ginsburg’s casket at the front doors of the court. As the yelling grew louder, both of them went back inside the court.

Trump was wearing a blue face mask with a presidential seal on it. Aside from his wife, the president was also joined by White House counsel Pat Cipollone and national security adviser Robert O’Brien to pay respect to the deceased judge. Vice President Mike Pence and her wife Karen have also paid their last tribute to Ginsburg.

The outrage during Trump’s funeral visit to Ginsburg comes following a public dispute over the president’s move to nominate a successor to the judiciary just weeks ahead of the Election Day in November.

Trump is expected to announce his nominee on Saturday at a White House ceremony. He said that he will choose a female justice, and noted that whoever she may be, she will be appointed before November 3rd.

Senate GOP members have vowed to act quickly to get a vote on Trump’s appointee. But Democrats are strongly objecting to the move, arguing that the presidential candidate winner on Election Day should be the one to pick the new justice.

Paying tribute to Ginsburg on Friday, Trump described her as an “amazing woman who led an amazing life.” He said that he would announce his nominee once the funeral services are done. Trump also instructed his aides to put the American flags at the White House to half-staff to honor Ginsburg.

Ginsburg’s remains will be placed at the Supreme Court doorsteps until Thursday and will be transferred to the US Capitol on Friday.
