WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Former Vice President Joe Biden must respond to the sexual assault claims against him by his former staff in Senate, says President Trump.
  • Biden’s camp and other allies, including  Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have denied Tara Reade’s accusations.
  • Trump on Thursday was asked to comment and suggested Biden must respond, but noted that it could be a false accusation as he was also maliciously accused of similar things.

On Thursday, during a White House gathering for senior citizen’s protection, President Donald Trump said that previous administration’s vice president Joe Biden must reply to the recent sexual assault accusations made by his former Senate staff member.

“I don’t know anything about it. I think he should respond,” Trump told reporters when asked about the charges on Thursday afternoon at the White House.

The presumptive Democratic nominee’s former Senatorial staff, Tara Reade, said she was sexually molested in 1993.

Reade detailed that Biden cornered her up on a wall, and reached out under her skirt toward her private part. She further claimed that she experienced career reprisal when she attempted to file a complaint against Biden.

Last year, Reade said Biden made her feel uneasy by touching her shoulders and neck, another allegation on top of the earlier claim.

Biden’s camp has since dismissed all allegations, and his allies on the Democratic party, such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, stayed on his side.

The New York Times at the time, talked to other Senate employees, and no one remembered any incident of the same nature, nor there was a discussion of such claims about Biden.

The president then went on to conclude that the allegations may be false as he underwent the same situation many times in the past.

“It could be false accusations. I know all about false accusations,” Trump said. “I’ve been falsely charged numerous times, and there is such a thing.”

When Trump ran for president in 2016, more than 20 women came up and accused him of sexual wrongdoings, including forcibly kissing, grabbing, and assault.

Trump has since repeatedly denied the accusations.

The president also referred to the allegations that came about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, whose earlier confirmation hearings has been the basis for the #MeToo movement.

Trump added on Thursday that Kavanaugh was an exceptional person,  and the false accusation against him was simply a shame to the U.S.

Christine Blasey Ford,  the most known accuser of Kavanaugh, then testified during a September 2018 televised Senate hearing about Trump’s Supreme Court choice. Ford claimed at the conference that Kavanaugh sexually attacked her when they were still in high school during a party.

The Senate eventually confirmed Kavanaugh after he repeatedly rebutted the accusations during his turn to speak on the hearings.

The case about Kavanaugh was referred to recently by the Republican allies of Trump, calling Democrats, including Speaker Pelosi, who sided with Biden on the issue, are hypocrites.
