President Donald Trump slammed CBS’ “60 Minutes” interview with former cybersecurity chief Chris Krebs as a “ridiculous, one sided story on election security.”
Krebs, the former director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), had declared that the 2020 election was the “most secure” in US history, contrary to Trump’s claims of voter fraud.
Trump has been launching legal challenges in swing states that show President-elect Joe Biden as the winner. Krebs’ statements, which directly contradicted the president’s, got him fired over Twitter on Nov. 17.
Now, Trump is slamming CBS for not asking the White House for comment after their interview with Krebs.
Trump tweeted on Sunday night, “@60Minutes never asked us for a comment about their ridiculous, one sided story on election security, which is an international joke. Our 2020 Election, from poorly rated Dominion to a Country FLOODED with unaccounted for Mail-In ballots, was probably our least secure EVER!”
Krebs has been the director of CISA since 2017. This year, he launched the “Rumor Control” website to debunk claims and rumors of election fraud. In the “60 Minutes” interview, he said that he stands by his assessment that the Nov. 3 election was secure.
Trump and his supporters have pushed unsubstantiated claims that the voting systems used in multiple states, Dominion Voting Systems, had deleted millions of votes.
Krebs debunked these claims, saying that “there was no malicious algorithm or hacked software that adjusted the tally of the vote,” as shown by Georgia’s hand recount of the votes.
“That tells you that there was no manipulation of the vote on the machine count side. And so that pretty thoroughly, in my opinion, debunks some of these sensational claims out there – that I’ve called nonsense and a hoax – that there is some hacking of these election vendors and their software and their systems across the country. It’s nonsense,” Krebs continued.
