Expressing his frustration on Twitter, the president re-tweeted a Daily Mail article with a caption: “Mitch, 75,000,000 VOTES, a record for a sitting President (by a lot). Too soon to give up. Republican Party must finally learn to fight. People are angry!”

The piece contained tweets and sound bites from top Trump allies criticizing the lead Republican legislator’s acknowledgment speech on Biden’s presidential victory.

McConnell spoke at the Senate floor the following day after the Electoral College officially voted and declared Biden as President-elect of the United States.

“The Electoral College has spoken… I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden. The president-elect is no stranger to the Senate. He has devoted himself to public service for many years,” he said on the Senate floor.

The Kentucky lawmaker also urged his fellow GOP senators not to oppose Biden’s win when the bicameral Congress officially tallies the Electoral College count on January 6. As some House Republicans were plotting to force a vote to challenge the Democratic presidential victory, McConnell said it would be a “terrible vote.”

The top Republican’s gestures suggest that any last-minute effort by Trump and his allies to overturn the election results would be far-fetched.

McConnell also acknowledged Harris’ historic win, saying: “I also congratulate the vice president-elect, our colleague from California, Sen. Harris. Beyond our differences, all Americans can take pride that our nation has a female vice president-elect for the first time.”

At the end of his address, McConnell wished the president to end his White House tenure with flying colors.

“I look forward to finishing out the next 36 days strong with President Trump. Our nation needs us to add another bipartisan chapter to this record of achievement,” he said.

After neglecting various media networks and news organizations’ proclamation of Biden’s victory last month, McConnell has fully recognized that the Republican president was defeated.
