Chicago’s violent weekend: More than 50 people shot, 9 killed including child and teens

According to reports, no less than nine people, with four kids, died, and 51 individuals got wounded due to shooting incidents in Chicago over the weekend.

Reports said that on Saturday, amongst the four kids who died was Mekay James, a 3-year-old child who was critically shot in the back at around 6:30 p.m. on the West Side of the city,  Austin.

Chicago Sun-Times reported the child was killed after somebody from a blue Honda pulled up behind and shot the black SUV driven by the boy’s 27-year-old dad.

The police insiders told the news outlet that the father, who was hit in the abdomen, is most likely the target.

Sun-Times said that mayor Lori Lightfoot was displeased with the shooting and called it an atrocious and criminal act, adding that the kid’s future was taken away.

After just about two hours after in the same area, a 13-year-old girl died and two young boys were hurt in another shooting incident.

The young girl, Amaria J. Jones, got shot in the neck, and she was inside her home. The other two kids who are aged 15 and 16 are just staying on a veranda when one of them saw a red laser pointing toward him, and gunfire was heard after, according to police reports. 

Both teeners were taken to the hospital after separately injured with gunshots in the back and the leg.

In South Chicago, a few moments earlier,  a man reportedly fired and killed Jasean Francis, a 17-year-old youngster, and an unnamed 16-year-old boy. According to reports,  the kids were in a backstreet at around 5:10 p.m. when they were killed according to authorities.

Also, on Saturday night, police officers have responded to calls of gun violence, and at around at 7:46 p.m., they found two wounded men on a walkway in Austin. One of those injured, a 27-year-old man died after being hit in the torso, while the other person, 32 years of age, was wounded in his left foot.

In the city’s Northwest Side, Logan Square, a 23-year-old man, was severely hit in the neck during a brawl at less than an hour earlier.

On Friday evening, two men died during two different shooting incidences within an hour apart at the West Side.

On the same night, at around 9:52 p.m., a drive-by shooting in Austin has wounded Johnny Teajue, 33, in the neck.

Another person, limos Collum, had died while his vehicle was sprayed with bullets from another car at about 10:49 p.m. in Garfield Park.

The latest deadly shooting incident happened on Sunday morning in Humboldt Park, West Side, which claimed the life of a 41-year-old man,  Alexis Perez, and injured three other men.
