A grieving Texas family is searching for answers after the body of 23-year-old Ashanti Allen was discovered.

Allen disappeared last week after leaving her Houston home while eight months pregnant.

Houston authorities scoured a taped-off area for evidence on Thursday afternoon.

The victim was a community college graduate who worked at a local hospital.

Edward Allen, the victim’s father, stated he believes his daughter was kidnapped before her death.

He described her as a hardworking young woman who was eagerly preparing for her son’s birth.

“We [were] hoping for the best, but now we’ve heard the worst,” Edward Allen said.

“I don’t think I even processed the fact that my daughter is gone. … I love my baby girl. Only girl, my baby girl. And then she had my only baby grandson.”

“Her life was going somewhere,” Edward Allen continued.

“She expecting a baby. I mean, she had baby clothes. I was about to go buy a car seat and stroller and all this other stuff.”

Law enforcement officials have not yet released details regarding a suspect or potential motive.

The investigation remains active as the community reels from the loss of the expectant mother.
