Illegal Immigrants Accused in Deadly Crashes Nationwide
Clear Facts
- Authorities recently arrested several illegal immigrants accused of causing fatal crashes across the U.S.
- Suspects were subject to ICE detainers and in many cases had overstayed visas or entered the country unlawfully.
- Victims included children, pedestrians, and families, with some incidents linked to repeat offenders and sanctuary policies.
Arrests of illegal immigrants tied to deadly accidents were reported in states such as Louisiana, Tennessee, Maine, Florida, and Wisconsin. Those accused face charges ranging from vehicular homicide to driving without a license or under the influence.
Many suspects had prior law enforcement encounters or expired visas yet remained in the country.
“It seems to be almost a daily occurrence where an illegal alien driving kills innocent Americans,” Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.
One Louisiana case involved the death of a 15-year-old boy struck while riding his bicycle, while in Maine, authorities say two Angolan nationals who overstayed visas were involved in separate fatal pedestrian incidents.
“All of these deaths are preventable because these illegal aliens should have never been in our country.”
In Tennessee, an illegal immigrant from Honduras with a revoked protected status was linked to a crash that killed a woman and injured her husband.
Immigration officials confirmed several suspects received ICE detainer requests, some of which were not honored due to local sanctuary policies.
President Trump renewed a crackdown on migrant crime upon returning to office in January, aiming to address these concerns.
“Hallie Helgeson and Brady Heiling had their whole lives ahead of them—and they would still be alive today if it weren’t for Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila—a criminal illegal alien from Honduras,” McLaughlin said.
Law enforcement continues investigating these tragic cases involving illegal immigrants and fatal crashes.
