WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • On Saturday, The Washington Post published a report about a phone call between President Donald Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
  • Trump was pressuring Raffensperger to find more votes as he argued that he won against President-elect Joe Biden in the state.
  • In the official count, Biden won Georgia with 11,779 more votes than Trump.

The Washington Post revealed on Saturday that it secured a copy of a one-hour phone call between President Donald Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger as the president was heard of pushing the state secretary to dig up more votes so he can reverse the election results.

The Post reported that Trump sounded like he was actually obtained victory on the state and implying that Raffensperger should recalibrate the results.

Raffensperger camp has continuously debunked Trump’s accusations of voter fraud in Georgia, arguing the that results were correct.

The White House has not yet provided a statement on the incident.

In the audio clip, the president said: “The people of Georgia are angry, the people in the country are angry… “And there’s nothing wrong with saying, you know, um, that you’ve recalculated.”

Raffensperger responded by saying, “Well, Mr. President, the challenge that you have is, the data you have is wrong.”

Trump was also heard saying: “So look. All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state.”

He added that there was no way that he lost in the state. “There’s no way. We won by hundreds of thousands of votes,” he emphasized during the call.

Before The Post released the report, Trump already announced on Twitter that he had conversed with the Secretary of State on Saturday.

The president said that Raffensperger “was unwilling, or unable, to answer questions such as the ‘ballots under table’ scam, ballot destruction, out of state ‘voters,’ dead voters, and more,” adding that “he has no clue!”

Rebuking the president, Raffensperger responded as he tweeted: “Respectfully, President Trump: What you’re saying is not true. The truth will come out.”

President-elect Joe Biden has obtained an 11,779 lead in votes against Trump in Georgia. He got over 81 million votes, the highest vote obtained by a presidential candidate in the nation’s history.

Trump has repeatedly claimed massive voter fraud without releasing any factual evidence. All the legal challenges filed by his campaign team were rejected by the courts. Even Homeland Security stated that the November 3rd election was the “most secured” election in US history.

The former vice president largely won against Trump, with 306-232 electoral votes as certified by the Electoral College last December 14.

In the upcoming January 6 Congress bicameral session, GOP lawmakers were reportedly plotting to object to Biden’s victory, though such move would do any impact in a bid to overturn the election outcome.
