  • Astronaut Victor Glover said the Artemis II mission should be seen as shared human history, not a demographic milestone.
  • Glover is a U.S. Navy test pilot with three master’s degrees and more than 3,500 flight hours.
  • He has spoken openly about his Christian faith, including taking communion aboard the International Space Station.

NASA astronaut Victor Glover is drawing praise for emphasizing universal achievement over identity politics ahead of the Artemis II lunar mission. Although the mission includes historic firsts, Glover wants the focus to stay on humanity’s broader story.

“I love that, but I also hope we are pushing the other direction … that this is just — this is human history,” Glover stated.

“It’s the story of humanity — not black history, not women’s history.”

Conservative commentators praised the pilot for stressing merit and national unity. Radio host Dana Loesch said Glover rejected identity-based narratives that can overshadow individual excellence.

“He’s not going to allow the attempted perversion of unity to undermine how this was a real achievement for America and humanity,” Loesch added.

Glover has also spoken about his Christian faith, saying science and belief in God are deeply connected. He has said he prayed before every flight and saw no conflict between scientific discovery and the beauty of creation.

“We need Jesus, whether on Earth or circling the Moon,” Glover said.

He noted that NASA supported his religious practices, including his ability to worship while off the planet. The Artemis II crew includes Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen, who also reflected the mission’s spirit of progress through equal opportunity.

The mission is set to be the first crewed lunar flight in more than five decades.
