“The U.S. could attack [Fordow] from Guam,” Howe explained, “but it makes a lot more sense to launch an attack from Diego Garcia due to its proximity to Iran.”
Diego Garcia’s location and facilities allow it to serve as a critical launch point for heavy bombers and offer advanced communications and support for U.S. missions.
In the past, B-2s were deployed to Diego Garcia, and the base has played a central role in responding to Iranian threats.
The risk to U.S. troops stationed throughout the Middle East may increase if military actions escalate in the region.
Each B-2 bomber can deliver two 30,000-pound Massive Ordnance Penetrators, considered essential for reaching deeply buried sites like Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility.
Mark Dubowitz, CEO of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, stated, “destroying [Fordow] from the air is a job only the U.S. can do.”
