  • The mission, Operation Absolute Resolve, took place on January 2 and involved multiple U.S. military and intelligence components.
  • Maduro, his wife, and four others face narco-terrorism conspiracy charges after the operation’s success.

The United States military planned the capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro for months before executing the nighttime raid.

The operation relied on coordination between soldiers, intelligence agencies, and law enforcement, displaying American strength and resolve.

“This operation, known as Operation Absolute Resolve, was discreet, precise and conducted during the darkest hours of January 2, and was the culmination of months of planning and rehearsal — an operation that, frankly, only the United States military could undertake,” Gen. Caine stated.

Federal officials charged Maduro, his wife, and associates with narco-terrorism conspiracy after the operation was made public.

The mission unified every branch of the joint force and depended on advanced intelligence and seamless cooperation.

“While the past two decades have honed the skills of our special operations forces, this particular mission required every component of our joint force with soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and Guardians working in unison with our intelligence agency partners and law enforcement teammates in an unprecedented operation,” Caine said.

He credited agencies including the CIA, NSA, and NGA for supporting the goal of protecting American interests abroad.

“We leveraged our unmatched intelligence capabilities and our years of experience in hunting terrorists, and we could not have done this mission without the incredible work by various intelligence agencies, including the CIA, NSA, and NGA.”

Executing the plan involved vast assets spanning the Western Hemisphere, with 150 aircraft acting in close synchronization for a single objective.

“This was an audacious operation that only the United States could do,” explained Gen. Caine. “It required the utmost of precision and integration within our joint force — and the word integration does not explain the sheer complexity of such a mission.”

According to Caine, any single error could have jeopardized the entire effort, but American dedication prevailed.

“Failure of one component of this well-oiled machine would have endangered the entire mission, and failure is never an option for America’s joint force,” he declared.

He noted the sacrifice and determination displayed by those involved in the raid over Caracas.

“Those in the air over Caracas last night were willing to give their lives for those on the ground and in the helicopters,” he noted.

The operation demonstrates America’s unmatched military abilities and steadfast resolve to uphold security and order.
