Fox News poll: Bipartisan majority of voters support stricter gun laws

A recent Fox News poll revealed that a bipartisan majority of voters strongly support tougher gun laws. The survey was conducted in the wake of several mass shootings that have impacted the nation.
Voters are strongly in favor of requiring background checks to buy a gun, with 88% of respondents saying they support them. The poll also found that 84% of the participants said they want to improve existing gun laws.
A whopping 82% of voters say they support raising the age to purchase assault weapons from 18 to 21 while 78% support raising the age to 21 for any firearm.
Passing of “Red flag” laws is supported by 81% of responders. This would allow authorities to seize guns from individuals shown to be a danger to themselves or others and 78% support mental health checks.
Most respondents (77%) back a 30-day waiting period for all gun purchases and 70% favor banning high-volume ammunition clips.
Just a little over half of the voters (56%) said they believe stricter gun laws would reduce mass shootings in the country, while 39% do not.
Less than half agree to allow teachers to carry guns at schools (48%).
Fox said the survey was conducted from June 10-13, just weeks after the mass shooting in an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas and roughly a month after the supermarket shooting in Buffalo, New York. Both shooters were 18-year-olds and fired legally purchased AR-15 assault rifles to kill.
On Sunday, a bipartisan group of senators reached an agreement for a framework of gun safety measures that would include red flag laws, background checks and funds to secure schools — but wouldn’t raise the age to buy certain rifles to 21.
In response to the agreement announced over the weekend, the NRA released a statement in a series of tweets vowing to fight the gun law.
“NRA will continue to oppose any effort to insert gun control policies, initiatives that override constitutional due process protections & efforts to deprive law-abiding citizens of their fundamental right to protect themselves/loved ones into this or any other legislation,” one of the tweets said.

I think over 22,000 (unconstitutional, BTW) gun laws already on the books is quite enough.

This is 100% unconstitutional without due process. If you are a heavy drinker should they confiscate your car to keep you from driving drunk?

Wrong again. Enforcement and punishment is the only deterrent. If someone wants a gun they will find a way to get one. We have drug laws on the books and addicts find a way to get them. Maybe we should enforce torture for these mass murderers. Now that would be a deterrent!

I’m so sick of the media calling the AR-15 an assault weapon and a weapon of war. To my knowledge our military has never used an AR-15 in any war. They used M-16’s and M4’s which are capable of firing fully automatic or bursts. An AR-15 can only fire one shot with one pull of the trigger.
All these know it all anti gun freaks know nothing about guns but pretend to be experts.

Yes enforce what we have before making an emotional decision. Keep the Felons locked up and look up the bleeding hearts with them. LoL. But really. If people were more informed about what the NRA actually does and What an AR-15 actually is things then might change. Most people don’t even realize how the justice system works. And more then most are very Gun uneducated. Maybe the words semi and automatic shouldn’t be used in the same sentence. Also when you have The View spreading misinformation then we all pay the price. Remember the show that had some semi auto’s on it looking fierce and a few non cosmetic twins. First thing they said these are assault weapons looking at the AR type. then the guy tried to tell them the difference and they wanted nothing to do with that. In fact I think it was the redhead or the braided one tat came right out and said those were automatics. I wish the NRA would fight that also. Disinformation is running rampant on fire arms. Heck give me a bazooka or a LAW any day.

Your points are well written defined. Those calling for more gun control laws never call out enforcement of those that we live under. I would love to know and have published the number of individuals denied acquiring a gun via a Federal Firearm Background application denial. People who falsify those affidavits are rarely prosecuted.

I agree.i have never seen a gun pull its own trigger. It takes a person. Banning guns will do nothing except make it less safe for citizens and easier for us to be controlled.

Trying to take away clips and guns already owned will create way more problems than it will solve . No one needs a race car a big boat a big house a golf course to drink and drive on booze all kinds multiple homes campers as big as semi trucks atvs that go over 30 miles per hour. I would much rather have my guns than any of the above. I do not want to take away those things that make us happy and bring us joy . People with guns risked everything to bring us freedoms that we all love ! We do need to eliminate the violent drug gangs and hate at all levels. We do need to harden all soft targets yesterday it was a fish in barrel murder tomorrow it will be poison drugs and bombs and the internet will show them how

Those polled are reacting emotionally to the recent shootings and don’t understand that none of the issues presented in the poll will prevent s deranged person from obtaining a gun. Hardening our schools, allowing those school employees who pass background checks to have guns, increased police presence in areas of criminality, and enforcing our laws as well as using maximum incarceration time initially with all criminals are issues to be addressed rather than the lazy ‘do nothing’ actions against gun ownership by law abiding people.

Using the term “clips“ shows their complete ignorance of the subject. None of these guns use clips. They use magazines. Red flag laws will violate the rights of law abiding citizens without due process or probable cause. That’s unconstitutional at every level. Punish the criminals, not law abiding citizens. Punishing law abiding citizens is Marxism and a totalitarian state, not a free country!

Lets take a new poll. 1000 educated on guns against 1000 non educated on them. I think the results might be a little different. Seems everything in life lately is emotion based not education based. School is not teaching the right information on life. Not even sure if it can be taught on a level plane. Bias will always be there.

The only time I’ve ever had and used a gun was ’70-’74 while in the USMC. If 22.000 guns laws is correct, they need to go back and eliminate at least 21, 950 of them. The United States Constitution “supposedly” guarantees “shall not be infringed”. Even if there was ONE law against the 2nd Amendment, or ANY other in the Bill of Rights, that is an INFRINGEMENT!! Others on this post are quite correct, in that our judicial system is just using the old “catch and release” gag…….unless the perp did it to a democrat, then all hell would break out and we’d be hearing it in the media for years!!!
