Freedom Caucus urges McCarthy to oust Pelosi as House speaker

• GOP members of the House Freedom Caucus have tried to influence House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to support an ‘unrealistic’ effort to dethrone Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as House Speaker.
• McCarthy said he was more interested in beating Pelosi and other House Democrats in the upcoming elections.
• In his tweet on Wednesday, Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) prompted the Republican House Leaders to support the move to remove Pelosi in her seat.

With an impossible effort to dethrone the House Speaker about six weeks before Election Day, Republican members from the House Freedom Caucus have attempted to persuade House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to support a move to remove Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the congress.

Knocking the wishful requests of the Freedom Caucus members in an instant, McCarthy said that he was apathetic with the effort against Pelosi during his Wednesday night interview on The Ingraham Angle.

According to McCarthy, it would be easier to remove Pelosi and beat the other 17 Democrats through the ballot box.

“What I’m in favor of is defeating Nancy Pelosi and [Jerry] Nadler and all the others,” McCarthy said, as he’s resorting instead to beating the top Democrat official in the upcoming election.

“If we were able to remove Nancy Pelosi you’d have another Democrat. The real challenge would be we’re … four weeks away from [the] election, or 40-some days. These Democrats could actually vote against Nancy Pelosi, use it in their campaigns to say they’re not with her, even though they vote with her 95% of the time.”

“I don’t think it’s the best move at this moment… I think the best move is to win 218 seats and that defeats Nancy Pelosi,” he continued.

“Do you know that there are fewer Democrats in the House since Nancy Pelosi held the gavel? At that moment we needed 19 seats to win the majority, today we only need 17,” McCarthy said. “We won every special election we played in and that was in Democrat seats that Democrats won by 9 more than points and it happened to be in California.”

Making his point, however, in a Wednesday night tweet, Chairman Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) of the Freedom Caucus urged the GOP leadership to participate in the slim chance of displacing Pelosi.

“Isn’t it past time for Rep. Nancy Pelosi to leave her office as Speaker of the House? I call upon our leaders in Congress to put forward the Motion to Vacate the Chair that has been prepared and merely needs to be brought to the floor,” he said.

The long-shot move would require all 198 GOP, Rep. Justin Amash (L-Mich.) with the help of the other 17 Democrats to unseat Pelosi.

The Freedom Caucus is famously known for its arousing rhetoric in the House. Previously, the group also made an effort to displace former House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) but failed.
