Judge Halts Trump Order Despite Backing

Clear Facts

  • A federal judge in Washington, D.C., blocked part of President Donald Trump’s executive order on election integrity related to proof of citizenship for voter registration.
  • Polling shows overwhelming American support for voter ID and citizenship verification, with 84% and 83% favoring these measures, respectively.
  • The House recently passed the SAVE Act to require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, but it must still be approved by the Senate.

A federal judge has halted a key section of President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at ensuring election integrity by requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration.

Despite this judicial action, recent polling from Gallup reveals strong nationwide support for both voter identification and citizenship verification.

“No statutory delegation of authority to the Executive Branch permits the President to short-circuit Congress’s deliberative process by executive order,” Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly stated in her written order.

Her ruling cited the Constitution’s assignment of election regulations to Congress and the states, not the Executive Branch.

The House of Representatives responded by passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, requiring proof of citizenship for those registering to vote in federal elections and removal of non-citizens from rolls. The legislation awaits a Senate vote.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, expressed strong support for the SAVE Act.

“In order to preserve this republic, we must uphold what it means to be able to vote in a U.S. election. I am grateful that my colleagues answered the call and passed the SAVE Act, as this serves as a critical first step to ensure that we maintain election integrity throughout our country.”

At the state level, five states have enacted voter ID laws in 2025, with one mandating proof of citizenship for registration. Many other states are considering similar measures.

Traditional values and election integrity remain widely supported issues, as Americans continue to back commonsense safeguards at the polls.

no one other then US Citizens should vote in ANY of our elections. However, demcrats who seem to now days be anti-American will fight this. To me, if you are against this, you should resign from the house/senate. Period.
