Kanye West withdraws support for Trump, calls Biden ‘not special’

Kanye West has insisted that his 2020 presidential bid is very serious in a new interview with Forbes.

West, who has been vocal about his support for President Donald Trump, is now withdrawing his support for Trump’s reelection.

The 43-year-old rapper, who has famously worn a red “Make America Great Again” hat, declared, “I am taking the red hat off, with this interview.”

West criticized Trump’s handling of the Black Lives Matter protests. He particularly condemned the June incident in which Trump “hid in the bunker” during protests near the White House.

West then shared his opinion on presumptive Democratic nominee, former Vice President Biden.

He remarked, “I’m not saying Trump’s in my way, he may be a part of my way. And Joe Biden? Like come on man, please. You know? Obama’s special. Trump’s special. We say Kanye West is special. America needs special people that lead. Bill Clinton? Special. Joe Biden’s not special.”

He added that the preconceived notion that all Black people must vote for the Democratic candidate is quite offensive.

West declared, “That is a form of racism and white supremacy and white control to say that all Black people need to be Democrat and to assume that me running is me splitting the vote.”

When asked what party he would run in, he said that he would have run as a Republican candidate if Trump weren’t in the race. But since Trump is the Republican candidate, West said he’ll run as a member of the “Birthday Party.” 

He then remarked, “Because when we win, it’s everybody’s birthday.”

He said that his running mate will be Michelle Tidball, a preacher from Wyoming, and that his campaign slogan will be, “YES!”

West also claimed that he contracted the coronavirus in February but did not undergo any official testing or treatment.

He shared his experience consisted of “chills, shaking in the bed, taking hot showers, looking at videos telling me what I’m supposed to do to get over it.”

He then expressed his stance against vaccines, saying, “That’s the mark of the beast. They want to put chips inside of us, they want to do all kinds of things, to make it where we can’t cross the gates of heaven.”

A source confirmed to ET that West is taking his presidential campaign announcement seriously.

The source said, “Kanye is telling people close to him that his announcement of running for president is serious. [He] has been toying with the idea for a while and has been getting more and more into politics.” 

West is yet to file any official paperwork to qualify getting on the ballot or as a write-in candidate.
