  • Rep. Adam Kinzinger said Steve Bannon’s conviction on Friday was “justice.”
  • Bannon was found guilty of criminal contempt after defying the House committee investigating Jan. 6.
  • Kinzinger discouraged future witnesses from ignoring Congressional subpoenas.

GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger said Steve Bannon’s conviction on Friday was “justice” after the former White House aide failed to respond to a subpoena by the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

During a Saturday appearance on ABC’s “This Week”, the Illinois Republican also warned that future witnesses who ignored subpoenas from the House select committee would be met with the same fate.

“It’s good. I mean, justice, right? Come in, you can plead the fifth if you want in front of our committee, but you can’t ignore a congressional subpoena or you’ll pay the price,” Kinzinger said. “That’s to any future witnesses, too.”

Bannon, 68, served as former President Donald Trump’s key adviser during the 2016 presidential campaign. He then served as his chief White House strategist in 2017.

On Friday, Bannon was found guilty of two charges of criminal contempt of Congress after refusing to obey a subpoena that ordered him to sit for a deposition.

Each charge is punishable by 30 days to a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

During an appearance on Fox News’s Tucker Carlson Tonight on Friday night after his conviction, Bannon stood by his actions. Carlson asked Bannon how he felt about the possibility of going behind bars and whether or not he thought he would be safe.

“I support Trump and the Constitution and I’m not backing off one inch, and if I go to jail, so be it,” Bannon said.

Leaving the courthouse, Bannon told reporters “we lost a battle here today. We’re at war” and vowed to appeal.

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 “event” is illegitimate! So is the subpoena!

    Blow it off!

If this committee we’re legit, it would be more fair and balanced as to the members. This way it just looks like a kangaroo court which should not be tolerated in the United States of America.

Unless you’re a democrat, then you can blow off subpoenas and other court orders……..and get away with it.

Yep – just ask with holder.
As others noted, the entire ‘committee’ is not legally nor Constitutionally appointed. Anyone except political hacks like kinzinger realizes that. I dare him to issue a subpoena for me for any reason. He won’t though as he has no authority to issue one.
